What is parent coaching?
Parent coaching is a guided approach where a skilled coach helps parents and caregivers use specific techniques during play and daily routines to support their child’s development (i.e. speech and communication.) This approach focuses on building caregivers' knowledge, skills, and confidence, empowering them to effectively use strategies that promote their child's growth. (Essentially, it’s putting the parent in the driver’s seat!)
-
Where does it take place?
Services take place in the child’s natural environment—at home! Our hybrid model combines in-home and virtual visits, creating a familiar, low-stress setting that promotes greater engagement and progress. Research shows that this method of delivery often leads to more successful outcomes.
Please note: At this time, in-home services are available only in cities within a 30-minute drive of Chesterton, IN.
-
What is the cost?
Parent coaching is a self-pay service.
In-home visits (60 minutes): $100.00
Virtual sessions (30 minutes): $60.00
Please note: In-person visits are recommended for the initial session until a well-defined joint plan is in place.
-
How often are sessions?
Sessions may be scheduled as often as you prefer. The coach will offer recommendations on frequency, but the decision is entirely up to you. There is no long-term commitment, and you may discontinue at any time.

How is it different from speech therapy?
Both speech therapy and parent coaching aim to improve a child’s communication skills, but they differ in approach, delivery, and who takes the lead in the process.
Speech Therapy typically involves direct intervention with the child by a licensed speech therapist. In these sessions, the therapist is the primary facilitator, using various techniques and activities tailored to the child's individual needs.
In contrast, Parent Coaching empowers parents to take an active role in their child’s language development. While the therapist introduces new strategies and techniques during coaching sessions, the parent becomes the primary facilitator of the child’s communication growth.
Benefits of Parent Coaching:
Trusted Relationship: Parents are the most trusted and impactful support for their child’s development.
Increased Practice: Parents can consistently work on communication skills throughout the day, maximizing practice opportunities.
Empowerment: Parents feel more confident and involved in the therapy process.
Supplements Speech Therapy: Parent coaching complements and may enhance progress made in formal therapy sessions. It can also serve as a valuable starting point while waiting for therapy services.
